To build upon the doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop community-based pharmacist practitioners with diverse patient care, leadership, and education skills who are eligible to pursue advanced training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies and professional certifications.

The program will provide learning experiences in four areas:

Patient Care:

Development and sharpening of clinical and critical thinking skills to position community pharmacists as health and wellness advocates on integrated patient care teams

Leadership and Management:

Development of leadership skills to create an engaging work environment through team supervision of day-to-day operations that comply with state and federal regulations and keep patient safety at the forefront

Advancement of Community-Based Practice:

Continue to support the advancement of the community pharmacist and pharmacy technician roles by quickly pivoting and adapting to the changes in the healthcare landscape to support the needs of the community

Teaching, Education, and Dissemination of Knowledge:

Community pharmacists should support fellow practitioners and student pharmacists to further their clinical and professional skills that optimize patient outcomes, patient safety, operation efficiency, and fiscal health for patients and organizations

• Pharmacy Spanish (optional elective)

• PharmD candidate from a US accredited program
• Currently licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in North Carolina
• Background in community pharmacy practice with interest in organizational leadership
• Strong communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Displays professionalism and maturity
• Travel requirements may include training programs, professional meetings and conferences

Required activities will include, but are not limited to:

• Complete and present a community pharmacy residency project suitable for publication Present a residency project at a national pharmacy meeting
• Successfully complete projects within learning experiences
• Participate in periodic journal clubs and presentations
• Participate in training programs to enhance technical, professional, and personal skills

At the residency conclusion, residents will be able to:

• Perform direct and indirect patient care activities
• Perform medication regimen reviews
• Collaborate with other CVS Health colleagues across the enterprise as well as other health care professionals
• Effectively operate in a community-based practice setting
• Exercise leadership and management skills
• Engage in health care reform discussions and provide services to the community
• Analyze medical and pharmacy literature to effectively solve clinical problems
• Participate in the education of peer pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy interns to expand their clinical and professional skills

Clinical learning experiences will occur at the Residency Site, while the affiliate site will serve as a secondary patient centered dispensing location. On-site participation at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC is also required.
