The Athletic Training program began in 1992 when Mr. Scott Hill was hired as the first full-time athletic trainer. Together, Mr. Hill and Dr. William Freeman, Chair of the Department of Exercise Science, created the athletic training major.
In 2000, under the direction of Mr. Paul Plummer, the undergraduate Athletic Training program received its initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
In 2012, Athletic Training program was awarded reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Campbell University is no longer accepting students into the undergraduate Athletic Training program. The last undergraduate cohort is expected to graduate in May 2021.
In 2019, under the direction of Dr. Sarah Christie, the Athletic Training Program will transition to a Master of Athletic Training degree and accept their inaugural class.
The program’s next comprehensive review is scheduled for the 2021-2022 academic year.
